Najiba’s story – I wasn’t able to recognize what was going on, but now I know what to look out for.

WE MEET NAJIBA AND AND HER SON JAABIR AT
THE CLINIC. THIS IS HER STORY.
“Originally, I am from the Koshk E Kohna region. After the American troops withdrew, life became too difficult for me, so I moved to Herat.

My family consists of eight members, with Sohail Jan being the fourth child. Our economic situation is extremely dire. My husband lives with his second wife and does not care for us. He abandons us to fend for ourselves.

I try my best to provide my children with what they need, but there is not enough money for food. To earn a little extra, I wash clothes for other families. That helps a bit, and sometimes I receive some extra help, but it is never enough. Due to the lack of adequate nutrition, my son became malnourished. However, I did not know enough about it and was unable to recognize what was happening.

When I went to the clinic for healthcare, I came into contact with the people from Village of Peace. They listened to my story and advised me to enroll Sohail in the clinic’s programme.

For four months, Sohail received a package of emergency food. His physical condition was also carefully monitored.

He is much better now. There have been significant improvements in his weight, height, and the circumference of his upper arm.

I also received training on hygiene and healthy nutrition a few times. It was very educational. Now I know what to look out for.

I am so happy that my son is now in better health. I hope this programme continues so that they can help even more vulnerable children recover from malnutrition.”
