Karim’s story – Health of his sister significantly improved

This is the story of Karim, a beneficiary of our food security project in Afghanistan:
“My name is Karim. Our family consists of five members: my mother, my two sisters, my younger brother, and me. Seven years ago, my father passed away, and since then, I have become the sole breadwinner of our family.
One of my sisters suffers from anemia, and she requires regular blood transfusions—more than 500cc each month—with the help of my grandfather. This has been a huge challenge for us, both emotionally and financially.
We have only 0.5 acres of land that was passed down from my father. I work on this land with my mother, planting whatever we can to provide food for the family. After registering in the FSP project, I learned a lot, especially about anemia and nutrition, which helped me understand how important food can be in managing my sister’s health.
I now plant vegetables on our land, and sometimes I sell them to local shops in the village to cover our home expenses. The knowledge I gained from the project has also changed our eating habits. We now focus on more nutritious meals. My sister’s health has improved because of the diet I developed for her. Every day, I make sure she eats two eggs, which I was able to get thanks to the hens I received from your office. This has made a significant difference in her condition.
I am deeply grateful to Village of Peace for your support, kindness, and the resources you have provided to our family. With your help, we are slowly overcoming the difficulties we face, and I feel hopeful for the future.”
